In this year, for the first
time during the five-year existence of the program «White Days in
St.Petersburg», a program's participant happens to be a periodical,
that is, a magazine «Teatralny Peterburg». Like every other
structure involved in the program, the magazine provides a special pack
of events on the «White Days» season of 2004/2005.
The first event is the issuance
of a CD album «Jazz in 'Teatralny Peterburg'». It is a
unique art project aiming to make the wide audience familiar with «theatrical»
jazz. The CD comprises music once created for various stagings, in Russia
and abroad, by renowned Petersburgers - jazz musicians and composers: Sergey
Kurekhin, Igor Butman, David Goloshchekin, Vyacheslav Gayvoronskiy, Vladimir
Volkov, Grigoriy Voskoboynik, Andrey Kondakov, Igor Dunkul, Aleksandr Zhuravlev.
An integral component of the project is a joint concert of all its participants
that will be held in Petersburg in the end of January.
One more pre-New Year gift
from the magazine «Teatralny Peterburg» is going to be White
Theatre’s performance of «Nora», after the play «A Doll’s
House» by Henric Ibsen (on December 23 and 24, 14:00, Apartment-Museum
of F.Dostoevskiy). Mikhail Bychkov has styled the play by a famous Norwegian
as a silent movie: the passions in the «doll’s house» are dramatized
in a true spirit of expressionism. A brilliant ensemble of the actors who
render the play: Aleksandr Bargman, Valeriy Kukhareshin, Svetlana Pismichenko,
Marina Solopchenko, Georgiy Shtil - features a fine precision of performance.
Decadent colours of scenery setting, arranged with exquisite simplicity,
and lightsome, parodying manner of a virtuoso accompanist Valeriy Piguzov
strenghten the impact of the genre chosen. The staging became a nominant
of the supreme theatrical award «Golden Mask» in 2003, and
it has won the virtual prize «Bravo!» by the result of spectators
voting at the largest Russian theatrical forum on Internet.
At the end of February, a
complex of events is planned: «Teatralny Peterburg Presents:
Maestro Anikhanov». These are three musical nights, timed to a “round”
date in the life and work of the Principal Conductor of Musorgsky Opera
and Ballet Theatre. Each of them highlights a facet of Maestro’s activity:
in opera, in ballet, in symphonic music. The night of February 26 in the
Grand Hall of St.Petersburg Philharmonia, devoted to Andrey Anikhanov’s
creative personality, will be a focus of these events. The program includes
Offenbach’s music and several pieces by Strauss, which - strange enough
- are sounding in our city not very often, though having been written in
Petersburg, inspired by Petersburg, and dedicated to Petersburg.
Participation in the program
«White Days in St.Petersburg» is the first action of such a
large scale for the magazine «Teatralny Peterburg» since its
revival in 2001. The project exceeds the framework of theatre in a narrow
sense. The editorial office of the magazine considers the whole city an
enormous stage, on which an exciting performance is run. Within the art
project «White Days in Teatralny Peterburg», any vital aspect
of the cultural capital of Russia is able to become a subject.
